Maria Myllys
Hi, I’m Maria, a third-year bachelor’s student. I’m enthusiastic, approachable, and eager to take on new challenges, which is why I’m applying for the position of IE on the board of Prosessiteekkarit ry for 2027. Although I’ve already gained plenty of experience at Aalto and in student life over the past three years, I still want to challenge myself and discover a new side of student community activities. I’m interested in joining the board because I want to give back to the student community that means so much to me while also learning new things myself. I love Otaniemi and teekkariculture, and I think it would be amazing to help create events that bring people together and make student life even more memorable.
I believe I would be a good fit for the role because I’m organized, responsible, and good at managing my time. As IE, I would love to be involved in planning and developing a variety of events that reflect Aalto’s sense of community and teekkariculture. I make sure that commitments are followed through properly and that event preparations progress according to plan. I’m also a quick learner, so I’m not intimidated by new tasks or areas of responsibility. Instead, I see them as opportunities to try something new.
I’m a team player and enjoy meeting new people. I’m easy to communicate with, plan with, and coordinate things with, and I love working together with others in a positive atmosphere. I’m not afraid to take responsibility or show initiative, and I believe that being proactive, flexible, and able to work with different kinds of people are important qualities for an IE. I’m ready to prioritize board responsibilities and genuinely dedicate my time to them. As a board member, I promise to take good care of my own responsibilities, but I’m also more than willing to step up and help out with all kinds of tasks whenever needed. I’m excited to take on new challenges and want to do my part in making 2027 an unforgettable year for Prosessiteekkarit.
In general, how do you see the event selection of our guild? What kind of events would you like to organize?
I think the range of events is good, although I would personally love to see even more sports activities and opportunities to try out different sports! I think themed sitsit are probably the most fun to organize, but I’m looking forward to organizing all kinds of events.
How would you take international students into account at events?
All event information would also be clearly communicated in English, and it would be made clear that everyone is welcome to participate, even if they don’t speak Finnish. When hosting events, it’s also important to remember participants who don’t speak finnish! I see this as a great opportunity to improve my own English communication skills.
Being IE is teamwork. What kind of partner would you like for yourself and what kind of partner would you be? How would you maintain a good atmosphere and working habits with your partner?
I would like to have a partner who is willing to step out of their comfort zone and isn’t afraid to bring up any issues with me.
I would maintain a good dynamic by being approachable and easy going. I would also encourage my partner to speak up about things with a low threshold and aim to build a relationship where we can comfortably talk about everyday things as well.
IE helpers are IE’s most important help in organising events. What kind of IE helper team would you like to form and how would you ensure that they form a close-knit team?
I want to build a team that is ready to take on different challenges with a positive attitude and have fun together while working! I think we could organize casual get-togethers and other low-pressure activities to get to know each other. I already have some experience with team building from being a tutor, so I believe bringing the group together wouldn’t be a challenge for me.
