Aida Ahola
Hey dear former of the board and other members!
I’m Aida Ahola, an enthusiastic second-year chemist majoring in chemistry and material science, and I am applying for the position of Head of Internal and External Affairs, in short SUV. I believe that I would have lot to contribute – what I yet lack in experience, I make up for with my eagerness, curiosity and unfaltering will to work for the common good!
As a first-generation Teekkari student- and university culture was totally unfamiliar concept to me, but during PT’s amazing Fuksi-upbringing the secrets of Teekkari-life have slowly unveiled to me. In my first autumn here, I applied for the position of CanCan-responsible and to my pleasure I got to enjoy co-leading CanCan last year. Now as a second-year student I had to leave CanCan behind, and the position of head ISO hasn’t satisfied my hunger for volunteering in PT’s activities. Therefore, I knew that I had to try my luck as soon as the board elections started.
Culture and sports hit very close to me as a dancer and as a SUV their development is high on my priority list. I’m a to do-list lover and planner at heart as well as precise with deadlines, so I believe that I could handle the practical side of the role. In addition, I think of myself as a social person, so interaction with other guilds outside of our own university sounds like a great opportunity.
As a SUV I would love to combine my strengths – my systematic personality, enthusiasm and the want to do communal good. I want to better our already diverse and enriching selection of activities for the whole guild together with SUV officials!
I will gladly answer any questions below and if you want, my dms are always open in Telegram @aidaahola!
1. Is there any specific unit of Care committee that you would like to develop? Why and how / why not?
Sports are a really crucial part of students’ lives, so my goal is to develop more versatile low threshold exercising. I have also enjoyed the pacing of sports try-outs, so I think that depending on the demand, they could even be a monthly occurrence. My personal favorite could also be PT’s own hike.
Creativity should once in a while be put to the test, because in STEM studies it’s maybe not that often used. Last year’s wine and paint –night would definitely get green light from me, as well as for example overalls-gadget crafting event near Wappu.
2. Managing sister guild relations is an important part of the tasks of the Head of Internal and External Affairs. What goals or ideas do you have for fostering sister guild relations in the coming year?
I think PT is doing well when it comes to larger events. Maintaining relationships with our sister guilds is an important way to network and to get to know the student cultures of other universities as well. My goal would be to encourage a larger group of our members to take part in get-togethers and evening events when sister guilds visit us. I also think it would be really interesting to try something new, such as a student exchange between sister guilds for major events, which would make it easier and more accessible to get to know students in other cities.
3. The Care Committee has a wide range of officials. How would you ensure the communication and activity in each part of the care committee throughout the year?
In my opinion, the most important thing is active and open communication. Telegram is the best discussion platform for that, and there I would form smaller groups for own divisions in addition to a larger group that consists of all SUV officials. Broader timelines would be linked to the bigger group, while the actual work and its oversight would be done in the smaller groups. I feel that it is always nicer to work with people who you know, so proper team building is a must! People getting to work with things they are actually interested in and have freedom to express themselves in, guarantees activity.
