As a person I have a ‘glass-half-full’ mindset; I’m social, a team player, a productive organizer, and, at least in my own opinion, funny.

During my own fuksi year, I saw firsthand exactly what being a great fuksi captain looks like and how much effect an inspiring fuksi upbringing has on one’s whole time as a teekkari. That’s exactly why I’m applying to be a fuksi captain – I want to provide the next fuksis with that same inspiring, tradition-honoring path into teekkari culture. That is why I want to be a fuksi captain.

In recent times, there’s been a lot of discussion in our guild about how to be even more open and approachable to English speakers. I have good ties to the English speaking side of PT so I know how teekkarius can seem very overwhelming for those, who’ve never heard of our student culture before. As a fuksi captain I would work to bridge the gap between the English and Finnish fuksis through new bonding events, improved communication to fuksis and increasing bilinguality.

I hold teekkari culture in extremely high regard. My father was a very active teekkari and left his own mark on teekkari culture. Because of this, I’ve always wanted to do something meaningful for teekkari culture – and what better way than being a fuksi captain – a way to directly influence the most important stepping stone of teekkarius.

In the previous Prosessiteekkarit meeting, where you were selected as the chair of the board, you noted that a fuksi captain must be enthusiastic. In addition to being enthusiastic, as a fuksi captain I’d be inspiring and an easy-to-approach support figure for fuksis. I am also prepared for the great responsibility and the genuinely massive workload that the position requires.

Dear reader,
To avoid any misunderstandings, I wish to inform you that this application ends here.

Teekkarikylä, 9.10.2026

Nooa Järvinen
tg: @nooajarvinen

If you were Fuksi Captain, what would be your goal for the next 1.5 years?
A fuksi captain has time to do a lot and make an impact on many things. I want to focus on three goals in particular:

Firstly, I want to make sure that every fuksi learns during their fuksi year what teekkari life has to offer. In particular, this means very active communication and outreach so that everyone stays up to date on everything happening in Otaniemi. You cannot get active in teekkari culture if you don’t know anything about it.

Secondly, I want everyone to find themselves a friend group or community where they feel they belong. Active communication with the ISOs and the ISOvastaava is crucial so that we, as fuksi captains, stay up to date on how the integration is going and can step in early if someone is struggling with it. My first goal also supports this. In addition to these, I want to focus on the integration of Finnish and English speaking fuksis. The key to this is working closely with the international captain and the CEO, as well as promoting bilingualism in communication and events.

Students who do not feel that they belong to a community or have friendships with their fellow students at the beginning of their studies often lag behind in their studies. How do you manage to integrate all fuksis into a community or help them to find their own group of friends?
The most crucial time for bonding is orientation week. It is extremely important to get all fuksis who are able to attend to be there for it. During orientation week, group activities that mix groups up — where the focus is on tackling a challenge or competing as a team rather than just getting to know each other are, in my experience, great at building team spirit.

The ISOs know best how the fuksis are doing. Close cooperation between the ISOvastaava, the ISOs, and the fuksi captains means that if someone finds integrating into the student community challenging, we can step in to help early on. I would arrange a one-on-one meeting with a fuksi who has trouble finding their group. One-on-one, it’s easier to get to the heart of the matter and provide that fuksi with more personalized support, advice, and help.

More broadly, I want to ensure that all fuksis are thoroughly introduced to the clubs, associations, and communities that exist at Aalto. This means good, effective communication that reaches everyone and is easy to understand.

PT has over 200 fuksis starting each year. What challenges and opportunities do you see this bringing to PT’s fuksi education?
Having over 200 fuksis is a fantastic thing. Personally, I see it brings a lot of opportunities and a major strength to our guild.

In such a large group, there are so many different people, which greatly strengthens teekkari culture and our guild by ensuring plenty of active members. The large number also makes it much easier for fuksis to find their own group.

Also, thanks to our high number of fuksis, we have a visible presence at every event and are more attractive to sponsors.
The biggest challenges are getting to know every fuksi as an individual, along with practical challenges such as reaching everyone through our communications and organizing events when everything has to be done on a sufficiently large scale.

How would you promote equality between Finnish- and English-speaking bachelor fuksis?
The most important thing for promoting this is working closely with the international captain and CEO.

The most effective ways to promote equality are mixing groups, especially during orientation week, so that fuksis bond across languages; promoting bilingualism, particularly at events, so that they are genuinely open to everyone; and on top of these, the solution to almost everything: effective communication.

By more effective communication, I mean that everyone should equally gain a thorough understanding of teekkari culture, its customs, and its traditions, as well as information about current events and activities. It also means hyping up Finnish speaking events to English speaking students and, especially, promoting English speaking events to Finnish speaking students.

Being Fuksi Captain is teamwork. What kind of partner would you like for yourself and what kind of partner would you be? How would you maintain a good atmosphere and working habits with your partner?
I have a positive and undeterred attitude. I like to plan well in advance whenever possible, and I am quite systematic. In a partner, I would hope for a similar positive and encouraging attitude, as well as enthusiasm for what we do.

Being a fuksi captain comes with a rather large workload, so taking care of one’s own well-being is important. I hope that my partner and I can share responsibilities easily and be a source of support and strength for each other when the workload feels heavy. As a partner, I would maintain active and open communication, and focus on doing things together and keeping an “us against the challenge” mindset.

I also want to build a good friendship with my partner. Friendship not only makes working as a pair smoother, but also makes the work fun, which is important to me.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_button button_url=”@ET-DC@eyJkeW5hbWljIjp0cnVlLCJjb250ZW50IjoicG9zdF9saW5rX3VybF9wYWdlIiwic2V0dGluZ3MiOnsicG9zdF9pZCI6IjY0NDgifX0=@” button_text=”Takaisin” _builder_version=”4.16″ _dynamic_attributes=”button_url” _module_preset=”default” custom_button=”on” button_text_size=”16px” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_button][/et_pb_column_inner][/et_pb_row_inner][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ custom_padding_last_edited=”on|tablet” _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” custom_padding=”0px|||||” custom_padding_tablet=”2px|12px|0px|12px|false|true” custom_padding_phone=”” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” custom_padding=”0px|||||” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_comments _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” custom_padding=”||||false|false” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_comments][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

I’m Nooa, a 3rd year student, majoring in chemistry and materials science, living in Teekkarikylä and I’m applying to be a fuksi captain.
